	"story_summary" => "WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Only a few banks have loosened mortgage lending standards over the past three months even as the housing market recovers, according to the Federal Reserve's latest quarterly survey of senior loan officers released on Monday.  A large majority of the officers said that the "risk-adjusted profitability of the residential mortgage business relative to other possible uses of funds" was an important factor restraining residential real estate loans. Fear of "putback risk," the risk that the insurers and mortgage buyers would force them to buy back bad loans, was another important factor. Demand for mortgages continued to increase, the Fed said. The survey found that American banks have made it easier for businesses of all sizes to get business loans. Some banks have also eased standards for commercial real estate loans. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said last fall that mortgage lending standards appeared to be overly tight.

	"story_summary" => "WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Only a few banks have loosened mortgage lending standards over the past three months even as the housing market recovers, according to the Federal Reserve's latest quarterly survey of senior loan officers released on Monday.  A large majority of the officers said that the "risk-adjusted profitability of the residential mortgage business relative to other possible uses of funds" was an important factor restraining residential real estate loans. Fear of "putback risk," the risk that the insurers and mortgage buyers would force them to buy back bad loans, was another important factor. Demand for mortgages continued to increase, the Fed said. The survey found that American banks have made it easier for businesses of all sizes to get business loans. Some banks have also eased standards for commercial real estate loans. Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke said last fall that mortgage lending standards appeared to be overly tight.
